About Chas H Baker
Three generations, one commitment — quality menswear and personal service in the heart of Salisbury.
A Family Business Built on Trust
In 1902, Charles Henry Baker resigned his position as menswear departmental manager at Field, Hawking and Ponting in Wallingford, Berkshire, and journeyed to Salisbury to purchase the menswear shop at number 15 Milford Street.
With one solitary assistant, he opened for business. The combination of friendly personal service, good quality goods, and reasonable prices saw the business prosper from those earliest days — a formula that has endured for over twelve decades.
Today, the Milford Street building continues to be owned by the Baker family, standing as a testament to independent retail done right.
